Springfield XD-M Elite 4.5" OSP 10mm
Blake Zimmerman Sep 30, 2025
Why it's great:
This striker-fired powerhouse is loaded with features: flared magwell, match-grade barrel, fiber optic front sight, and 16+1 capacity. It’s also optics-ready and surprisingly soft-shooting for a polymer gun.
Specs
- Barrel Length: 4.5"
- Capacity: 16+1
- Weight: 31 oz
- Frame: Polymer
- Optics-Ready: Yes (OSP)
Pros:
- Highest standard capacity in its class
- Great sights and trigger
- Ambidextrous controls
Cons:
- Larger profile for hip carry
- Magazine reliability concerns in harsh environments: Some users have reported that the XD-M's double-stack magazine can be prone to fouling when exposed to fine silt, such as that found in glacial runoff. The tight tolerances inside the mag body can lead to feeding issues if not cleaned thoroughly after exposure.
Cast Bullet Use:
Springfield XD-M barrels use traditional rifling and are generally safe for hard cast bullets. As with all factory barrels, verify proper bullet fit, and avoid soft lead. Aftermarket barrels are not typically required unless you experience leading or want tighter tolerances.
Best For:
Shooters who want maximum capacity, good ergonomics, and an affordable optics-ready platform—but who also prioritize regular maintenance when in rugged or wet environments.
